At Veterans and the Media, accessible from www.veteransandthemedia.com, one of our main priorities is the privacy of our visitors.

This Privacy Policy document contains types of information that is collected and recorded by the website, and how we use it.

This website and project are interested in monitoring overall aggregate information such as:

  • the number of visitors over time.
  • the pages viewed.
  • the rough geographical location of the visitor (e.g. the state or county, rather than the exact location).
  • the devices on which the website is visited.

To do this we use Google Analytics, with the anonymised IP setting enabled. We do not record personal information, or any information which could be used to track or identify individual users, and we also have declined to share any information on our site visits.

Like most websites, this website uses cookies which are set on your browser by the Google Analytics software. We enable the anonymised IP setting, which removes the last 3 digits of a standard IP address, before any processing or storage occurs. This means that we cannot identify you or your exact location, but we can see your rough location to a much coarser level of granularity.

We therefore have access to the records of individual site visits, the pages viewed, the time spent on each page, the type of device used (mobile/desktop/tablet), and rough location in the world, but we do not collect any information on individual users which could identify them. We would have no purpose for such information.

We have turned off the options to share our analytics data with Google for any reason, e.g. for technical support and marketing.

We also do not use any third party cookies or other tracking technology on this site which can track your browsing across sites. For example Facebook's 'Like' button, or embedded YouTube videos.

We are interested in:

  • The academic conclusions which could be drawn from the aggregate data of site visits in general. From this point of view it is important to know which pieces of information are being viewed, and from which parts of the world and how often.
  • The website design implications of the devices being used by those interested in the subject matter. We want to present the information in the most readable way by our users, so we want to cater for all devices that are used.

The anonymised visitor information we collect through Google Analytics is securely stored under our account. We keep the information for the default period of 26 months, after which it is automatically deleted.

If you have any concerns about our use of anonymised site visits, please contact us.
